PROFILE

Combining cacao with adaptogens: making the best of both worlds.

Herbal Cacao is the first brand featured in our Cacao Profiles with blends—an inclusion well earned, as their recipes were conceived with intentions that extend beyond taste alone.

While cacao’s catalyst potential is still being uncovered, the carefully selected adaptogens chosen by Sharon add another layer of depth to this already potent cacao. Together, they create a fascinating field of exploration, both in flavor and in effect.

CONTEXT

Herbal Cacao offers a variety of cacao blends crafted from Belizean and Guatemalan beans, each with distinct flavors and effects.

While our full profiling is available for their pure Belizean cacao, this article focuses on the blends based on it and enriched with adaptogens. Here, we explore not their flavor profiles, but the way these inclusions shape the overall experience.

To keep an objective approach, we didn’t investigate on their actual effects & benefits until we’d had carried out our tastings and wrote down our feedbacks.

This piece was thought to highlight cacao’s remarkable role as a catalyst—amplifying and carrying the subtle influence of what it is paired with.

BLEND #1 - Immune Support

Chaga

INGREDIENTS

Chaga, Ceylon Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper, Vanilla powder

OBSERVED STATES

STRONG • PROFOUND • MEDITATIVE

EFFECT PROFILE

We thought the plain version was intense—until we tried this blend.

The difference was immediate: sharper vision, heightened contrast, and a noticeable sensitivity to light, almost as if objects came into sharper relief. The effect was surprisingly powerful, beyond what we expected from its familiar cacao base.

Alongside this clarity came a strong pull inward, a grounding force that at first felt challenging to grasp while speaking. It was only when we stopped analyzing and leaned into the experience that it opened fully. With eyes closed, sensations of inner movement followed the rhythm of our breath—steady, rooted, and fluid—bringing both focus and calm.

Time slipped away, replaced by a simple contentment and a clear sense of presence. It was a memorable cup, one that worked on deeper layers than we anticipated—before even being aware of the added benefits of Chaga itself.

For more on its history, compounds, and properties, the brand’s detailed article is worth reading.

BLEND #2 - Pasión

MUCUNA

INGREDIENTS

Mucuna Pruriens, Rose petals, Vanilla powder

OBSERVED STATES

INTENSE • ACTIVE • FOCUS

EFFECT PROFILE

This blend felt closer to its plain version than the Chaga. After several tests, always returning to the “Natural” in between, we were able to notice a subtle difference.

Where pure Belize slows things down, this blend set us in a more active posture—forward-leaning, with noticeable increases in blood flow and heartbeat. It carries the same qualities of the base cacao but shifts the mood: less about stillness, more about finding rhythm and engagement.

A nuanced variation, ideal for those who appreciate the plain version’s effects yet want support for focused practice, creative work, or any activity that thrives on momentum.
