PROFILE
Colombia, in the north of South America, is a country defined by rich landscapes that range from lush rainforests to high mountain peaks. On its northern Caribbean coast rises the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta — an isolated mountain range that climbs abruptly from sea level to snow-capped summits, creating one of the world’s most diverse ecological regions.
In this unique setting, cacao thrives in fertile soils fed by abundant rivers and shaded by dense forest canopies. Small farms here still follow traditional growing methods, supported in part by Indigenous communities like the Arhuacos, who help protect this living landscape.

CONTEXT & MAKING PROCESS
The beans used to make Connected Colombia are grown, tended, and harvested by the Arhuacos — one of three Indigenous groups who safeguard the biodiversity sanctuary of the Sierra Nevada in Colombia.
The Arhuacos have recently reclaimed their ancestral lands and sacred sites after the region was officially recognized as a living being and granted federal protection. Since then, they have revived their traditional cacao cultivation, which dates back at least six centuries before colonization. In this spirit, they named their cacao variety Businchari, which means new beginning.
Ora’s team have planned another trip to the region to support a full genetic analysis of the Businchari variety. Some scientists suspect that this area may be the original cradle of the ancient Criollo Blanco, from which cacao spread south into the Amazon and north into the Maya forests.
The Sierra Nevada is renowned for its rich biodiversity, rising dramatically from sea level to high peaks. Its many lakes and rivers feed valleys and create lush rainforests — the ideal environment for cacao to thrive.
Like the farmers in Belize, the Arhuacos sell their cacao as wet beans to a centralized post-harvest facility operated by Cacao de Colombia. There, the beans are expertly fermented and dried to develop their full flavor potential and maintain their quality.
Once dried, the beans are packed and shipped to Ora Cacao. Jonas and his team then transform them into pure Origin Cacao discs through a careful, minimalist chocolate-making process that preserves the cacao’s natural compounds and highlights its best flavors. This process includes light roasting, winnowing, grinding, conching, and tempering. The equipment used is the same type employed by craft chocolate makers.

REMARKS
Connected Colombia is a full-bodied, balanced cacao with a smooth, comforting taste and a strong chocolate intensity. Its flavor profile is straightforward yet satisfying, with low aromatic complexity but a depth that holds your attention from start to finish.
It opens with warm notes of toasted bread and brownie, followed by a subtle tang of blackberry that adds just enough brightness. Its base notes lean woody, with an edge that drifts naturally toward a coffee-like finish.
This cacao pairs extremely well with oat milk, which brings out an even richer, creamier texture without masking its character. For a clean, robust experience, it’s equally enjoyable prepared simply with hot water.

REMARKS
Connected Colombia shares its effects swiftly and distinctly. Before the last sip, a noticeable sense of calm settles in the head, gently quieting mental chatter and helping disconnect from everyday distractions. We’d describe the sensation as steady, grounding, and pleasantly intense — the kind of intensity that supports focus rather than overstimulation.
The experience naturally drew our attention inward, encouraging stillness and self-connection. Over time, this deep focus can shift into a light, subtle lift in mood.
A small serving is ideal for meditation, journaling, or mindful reflection, while a higher dose can lay the foundation for a deeper inner journey. For us, Connected Colombia is a cacao to help anchor, center, and guide you inward with clarity and calm.
